IF YOU’RE OLD ENOUGH, YOU’RE GOOD ENOUGH.

IF YOU’RE OLD ENOUGH, YOU’RE GOOD ENOUGH.

Who are we?

Lewes FC Vets are connected to Lewes FC, but our base is 'The Rookery' at the Holy 3G just off Ham Lane in Lewes. Our football club is designed for individuals aged 35 and above, and it's entirely run by volunteers. Our current membership stands at about 110, mainly consisting of enthusiastic men, along with a remarkable group of women.

Our purpose is to

  • Create a therapeutic football environment that promotes regenerative well-being and puts relationships first

  • Provide top-notch Vets football for as many people over 35 as possible

  • Raise funds for Lewes FC (£15.2k per annum in pitch fees], for improving facilities at the 3G and for charity

Our football culture is grounded in compassion, inclusivity, and fairness. This translates into our weekly member's football sessions every Tuesday,Wednesday and Friday at 8/830pm. If you're 35 or older, you're welcome to join in and play if there's space available!

Members enjoy a surplus of football opportunities, including our 11-a-side Old Quality League, participation in the Sussex Sunday Football League, cultural excursions, community-building activities, cheering for Lewes FC, and wellness-focused endeavours. We encourage members to volunteer and support the club with small contributions of time, and we currently have a team of over 20 individuals helping to keep everything running. Is this you, you legend?

The Poem

Yes, we have a poem! A legendary part of Vets culture, read out before training and matches to set the tone and bring us together.

It’s Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday night at the 3G

Now is a time for joy!

We are a community who love to play football!

Showing up matters and everybody is welcome here

I trust you to both give and receive the ball

We allow each other to make mistakes

We will encourage, not coach or criticise

Captains call all in-play decisions, but will not call offsides

Stay onside and fetch wayward balls immediately

We are careful in the tackle

Stay on your feet and please avoid needless fouls

We know we are getting old, not the people we used to be

We carry injuries

The spectre of sickness and death is upon us

Winning is not everything

So let’s run, work and play our best football

If you are old enough, you are good enough
